The exchange · rate 1:1 · no commission

A click out earns a click in.

Relay is the exchange the newsrooms of the MIB network trade readers through. Each member carries a block of headlines from the others; every reader it hands over buys it a reader back — one for one, and the exchange keeps nothing.

What is on the floor right now

Nothing has traded yet — the first click through a member's block opens the book. This is the material waiting in the pool: whatever a member's block is asked for next is drawn from here.

Eleven languages, eleven markets

A block only ever carries headlines in the language of the page it sits on, so each language trades on its own. A language with a single newsroom has nobody to trade with.

The standing ledger

Out is what a newsroom handed to the network, in is what the network handed back, and balance is what the exchange still owes it — in readers, at one to one.

How a trade works

Both ends of every trade are measured: the click is counted where the reader leaves, and confirmed again where the reader lands.

The full mechanics →
1

The block asks

One script tag on the member's page requests four headlines in the language of that page.

2

The rotator answers

Fresh material from other members, ranked by click-through, freshness and what the exchange owes them.

3

A reader sees it

The impression counts only once the block has actually been in the viewport for a second.

4

A reader clicks

The link is signed, single-use and tied to the member's own domain; Relay redirects and books the trade.

5

The reader lands

The receiving site confirms the arrival — the other half of the ledger, and the check on the first half.

6

The book moves

One out, one in. No cut is taken, and no position in any block is for sale.

The block itself

About 7 KB, one request, no iframe and no cookies. It lays a floor and never a ceiling: the host theme restyles it by setting a handful of variables.

See it in four host skins →

One tag, and the member is trading

The block goes in as a strip above the footer, on every page except the legal ones. It inherits the page's typography, matches the theme's own content column, and reserves its height so nothing on the page moves.
